ARCHITECTURE — RESIDENTIAL
A weekend retreat on the outskirts of Meerut
The Story
et among a mature mango orchard on Sardhana Road, this weekend retreat is designed to dissolve the boundary between architecture and landscape. The building is deliberately low — single-storey throughout — so that the tree canopy remains the dominant presence.
The plan is organised as a sequence of pavilions connected by covered walkways and open courts. The living pavilion features a full-width sliding glass wall that opens onto a shaded verandah overlooking the orchard. The sleeping pavilion is oriented east for morning light, with deep eaves that shade the rooms through the afternoon.
Materials are robust and agricultural in character: exposed concrete frame, country-fired brick, and a standing-seam metal roof. The floors are polished IPS (Indian Patent Stone) — a traditional finish that is cool underfoot and ages beautifully.
Construction is currently underway, with completion expected in early 2025.
